A poem inspired by the book and poem “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou. Enjoy!
The once caged bird is singing a twisted tune,
Not the spiritual ballad that gave her Attention
But confused lyrics as she tries
To bask in the sunlight
and whistle to the rising moon
The once caged bird tries to mimic the sun
But is lost in the branches of the Poplar
That caused it to sing.
The once caged bird now foolishly follows
The free bird in freedom
But flies into doom
The once caged bird used to sing,
Now its crying
It wishes for the safety
Of its cage. Where life was easy and the shade was great
The now “free” bird
Is in new cage with no visible bars
For what will it sing now?
